College of Nursing Sciences, Calabar to Represent Cross River at 2025 National Campus Debate

The College of Nursing Sciences, Moore Road, Calabar, has been selected to represent Cross River State at the zonal stage of the 2025 National Campus Debate, Nigeria’s flagship civic engagement platform for tertiary institutions.

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) made the announcement on Monday on its official X page, announcing that the institution emerged winner after a rigorous state-level selection process which ran from May to July 2025. Institutions across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory submitted debate video entries, with the top three shortlisted in each state before the final selection.


Other South South representatives include Benson Idahosa University (Edo), Sports University of Nigeria, Idumuje-Ugboko (Delta), Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (Rivers), Nigerian Law School, Agudama (Bayelsa), and University of Uyo (Akwa Ibom).

The Zonal Face-to-Face Debates will be held from 15th to 22nd September 2025 across the six geo-political zones. Each zonal winner will progress to a televised national final designed to showcase youth excellence and civic leadership.


This year’s debate is themed: “Unity in Diversity: Defining National Identity in Nigeria’s Multicultural Society.” The National Grand Finale is slated for October 2025 at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, as part of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day celebrations.

The stakes are high: the national winner will walk away with ₦50 million, the second-place team will earn ₦30 million, while the third-place finisher will receive ₦20 million.

The NOA commended participants for their “intellectual rigour and creativity” and praised its State Directorates for effective coordination. It also urged the public, academic institutions, and civil society groups to follow the event closely as all zonal and national rounds will be livestreamed on its digital platforms and media partners’ channels.
