UNICAL Stampede: VC Banku Denies Death Claim of 2 Students

By Efa Sunday  University of Calabar Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Banku Obi has denied the allegation of two dead students that was aid to have occurred following the stampede of Tuesday February 25, 2025 within the University premises. Recall that an uproar had occured in UNICAL involving students scheduled to write examination in the Chemistry Department. However, in a counter narrative, the VC speaking with CivicNewsNg via the telephone claimed that no student's life was lost in the stampede. Asked if she was aware of the incident, Prof. Obi responded; "Sure I am aware of the incident. It was indeed a sad development to be sincere though it was such an avoidable incident. By Efa Sunday  The Cross River State Northern leaders of the All Progressives Congress have unveiled an all encompassing caucus members meeting scheduled to hold on the 2nd of March, 2025 at the Landmark Hotel in Ogoja LGA by 2pm.  The event which has been tagged 'Northern Cross River Coalition', will also feature an inaugural meeting of the party's Central Working Committee. The Northern Coalition has the State party Chairman, Barr. Alphonsus Ogah Ebar as an Adviser, while High Chief Higgins Peter is sitting as the Leader. Obanliku Council Boss Floats Subsidized Intra-State Transport Scheme By Efa Sunday The Executive Chairman of Obanliku Local Government Area, Chief Dr. Sunny Ayang JP in a bid to ease the cost of transportation for his people, on Monday February 24th, 2025, unveiled the official commencement of subsidized Intra-State Transport scheme.  An official statement made available from the office of the Special Assistant to the Chairman on Public Transportation, Peter Ikwen Ololo says the subsidised air-conditioned transport options are now available for trips from Obanliku to Calabar for ₦12,000.   The transport scheme code named "The Obanliku Riders", according to the release was the Chairman's initiative to tackle the transportation issues faced by the residents of Obanliku and nearby Local Governments Areas.   The statement therefore encourages surrounding Local Governments, such as Ogoja, Yala, Bekwara, Boki, and Obudu, to utilise the vehicles at the same cost of ₦12...
