AON Slams Lifetime ‘No Fly’ Ban on Ibom Air Passenger, Comfort Emmanson, Over Unruly Conduct
By Efa Sunday
The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) has imposed a lifetime ban on Ms Comfort Emmanson for unruly behaviour on an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos on Sunday, August 10, 2025. The decision followed her refusal to comply with safety instructions, a violent physical assault on crew members, and an attempted use of a fire extinguisher as a weapon.
AON spokesperson, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, said the association stands united with Ibom Air and all members in maintaining a zero-tolerance policy towards unruly airline passengers. “While we recognise the rights of passengers to express their grievances, such actions must follow due process. We are committed to protecting our employees, passengers, equipment and to maintaining the highest safety standards,” he stated.
In a statement issued Monday, AON described the incident as “one of the most severe cases of unruly passenger behaviour witnessed this year,” noting it endangered the lives of passengers, crew, and the integrity of the aircraft. “Effective immediately, the AON has placed Ms. Emmanson on its ‘No Fly’ list indefinitely… She is hereby banned from flying with any AON member either domestically or internationally for life,” the statement read.
The association linked the case to recent incidents involving prominent Nigerians, including musician King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (KWAM 1) on ValueJet and Senator Adams Oshiomhole on Air Peace, saying such conduct is becoming too frequent.
Meanwhile, Ms Emmanson was today detained in Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending the conclusion of ongoing investigations over the incident.
AON also urged the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to tighten aviation security measures nationwide, warning that anyone who exhibits such behaviour in the future will face similar consequences.
