The Dangote Group says it has paid a visit to Mrs. Ruth Otabor, who was injured in a recent road accident involving one of its trucks in Auchi, Edo State.

In an official statement on Thursday, the company said senior officials from Dangote Cement Plc, alongside its insurance team, promptly visited the accident scene, engaged with law enforcement authorities, and checked on the victim and her family at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital.

“This action reflects our unwavering commitment to the well-being of those affected. We are ensuring full support for Mrs. Otabor, including comprehensive medical care and appropriate compensation, in line with Dangote Group’s welfare policy,” the statement read. The company also expressed its sympathy and wished her a speedy recovery.

The accident, which occurred on Wednesday near Auchi Polytechnic, left Mrs. Otabor, the younger sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner Josephina “Phyna” Otabor, critically injured. Her left leg was amputated at the pelvic region, and her other leg remains at risk, according to family sources.

Following the incident, Phyna took to social media alleging that the truck driver was being shielded from justice, a claim that has drawn attention from actress Kate Henshaw and activist VeryDarkMan, who have both called for a transparent investigation.

The Dangote Group’s statement marks its first official reaction since the incident, assuring the public that the company is committed to supporting the victim and complying with all relevant procedures in the ongoing case.
