Phyna's Sister Loses Leg in Dangote Truck Accident, Family Demands Justice
By Efa Sunday
A tragic accident has left Otabor Bodon Ruth, the younger sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner Josephina “Phyna” Otabor, critically injured, with her left leg amputated and her other leg at risk.
The crash occurred on Wednesday near Auchi Polytechnic and involved a heavy-duty truck allegedly connected to the Dangote Group. Phyna took to social media to accuse Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, and his company of shielding the truck driver from justice.
“From all that has happened, you decided to tell the Nigerian police to remove the plate number on the truck that crushed my sister… Everybody else takes priority over her,” Phyna wrote in a passionate Instagram post on Wednesday night, tagging both Dangote and the Dangote Group.
Actress Kate Henshaw also voiced her anger, revealing that the truck is being held at the Auchi police station. She claimed the driver fled the scene but was apprehended after being chased down by a lecturer who witnessed the crash.
“Attempts are being made to block both the family and the school from accessing the vehicle and information regarding its custody,” Henshaw alleged.
Social media activist VeryDarkMan shared a video from JETU Hospital showing Ruth in critical condition.
“This girl is fighting for her life, yet all the energy is going into protecting the truck and its driver instead of seeking justice,” he said, directly accusing the Dangote Group and the police of prioritizing concealment over accountability.
According to a live video made by Phyna and spotted by Newspeak Online, Ruth’s left leg was amputated from the pelvic region. She also sustained severe injuries to her head, hands, and remaining leg. Phyna, visibly emotional, described the accident as “a devastating blow” to her family, especially since Ruth had just graduated from the University few days earlier.
Supporters online are now demanding that the Dangote Group take full responsibility and that the investigation remain transparent.
VeryDarkMan in a post made early Thursday reads, "We will not allow them to release that truck or that driver. Justice must be served for Ruth," tagging Alhaji Aliko Dangote.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Aliko Dangote nor the Dangote Group has issued a public statement in response to the allegations.
