Rivers Assembly Resumes Sitting Six-month After, As Thousands Gather to Receive Fubara

Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly are currently in an informal sitting session being presided over by Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, few hours after the emergency rule elapsed.
An Order Paper for the day cited by Newspeak shows only one item, which is a Motion to Set Legislative Agenda for the Remainder of the Year for the 10th Assembly.
Speaker Amaewhule arrived at legislative chambers at about 11:33 a.m. on Thursday, and he was received by some members of the 10th Assembly and some staff of the house of assembly.
Meanwhile a large crowd of residents have gathered around the Government House, awaiting the arrival of Governor Sim Fubara.

The Governor and his deputy are expected to take over the leadership of the state today, six months after President Bola Tinubu imposed emergency rule on the state.
Governor Siminalayi FubaraFubara and his deputy had been away from the governance of the state for six months, after President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers, citing a political crisis, and order retired Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas to preside over the state as a sole administrator for those number of months. The state of emergency however ended on Wednesday.
The former administrator, retired Admiral Ibas, on Wednesday night handed over the reins of power on Wednesday night, while urging political actors in the state to embrace mutual respect and dialogue in a state broadcast.
Retired Admiral Ibok-Ete IbasThe political brawl began when Governor Fubara fell out with his political godfather and former governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, over an allegation of political control of the state. This brawl spiralled to the member of the House of Assembly, polarizing the lawmakers.
